ICAI Hosts Transformative AI Innovation Summit 2024 in Hyderabad
The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) recently held the AI Innovation Summit 2024 (AIS 2024) at Shilpakala Vedika in Hyderabad on July 16th and 17th. The event showcased groundbreaking advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) and their transformative impact on accounting, auditing, tax, and governance. The summit, featuring esteemed global AI experts, industry leaders, policymakers, and academicians, highlighted ICAI’s commitment to integrating AI into the financial profession to drive innovation, enhance professional practices, and foster economic growth.

This two-day event, focusing on the theme "Transforming Accounting, Audit, Tax, and Governance," drew attention to the significant role of artificial intelligence (AI) in revolutionizing the financial and accounting sectors.
The summit was inaugurated by CA. Ranjeet Kumar Agarwal, President of ICAI, alongside CA. Charanjot Singh Nanda, Vice-President of ICAI, CA. Dayaniwas Sharma, Chairman, AI in ICAI, and CA. Umesh Sharma, Vice Chairman, AI in ICAI. The event also saw the presence of various Central and Regional Council Members of ICAI, underscoring the importance of AI in the accounting profession.
In his keynote address, CA. Ranjeet Kumar Agarwal emphasized ICAI's unwavering commitment to embracing innovation and advancing the accounting profession through AI. He highlighted the recent launch of 'CA GPT' on July 1st for ICAI members, designed to enhance the capabilities of professionals in practice, industry, and business. Building on this initiative, the summit also witnessed the launch of an exclusive Certificate Course on AI for Members, aimed at equipping professionals with foundational AI knowledge and practical skills.
Adding a significant milestone to the event, ICAI introduced 'ICAI CA GPT' for its 9.85 lakh students. This comprehensive AI-powered platform is set to revolutionize exam preparation by providing extensive study materials and relevant questions, all accessible for free. "AIS 2024 reflects ICAI's commitment to harnessing AI's transformative potential to drive innovation in the accounting profession," said CA. Ranjeet Kumar Agarwal. "With AI's ability to translate audit reports into local languages, we are enhancing accessibility and understanding, positioning India as a global leader in this crucial technology."
The summit featured an array of thought-provoking sessions and panel discussions led by global AI experts, tech industry leaders, policymakers, and academicians. These sessions delved into critical aspects of AI integration, exploring its impact on accounting, auditing, taxation, and governance. The discussions emphasized AI's potential to improve professional practices, enhance regulatory compliance, and foster informed decision-making.
CA. Charanjot Singh Nanda, Vice President of ICAI, highlighted India's leadership in AI adoption, with 60% of Indian companies embracing this transformative technology. "At ICAI, we believe that technology plays a crucial role in refining our thought processes and enhancing our capabilities," he stated. "Our vision is to become pioneers in technological initiatives that the world will undertake, driving innovation in accounting and auditing through digital forensics and AI tools."
Participants had the opportunity to gain hands-on knowledge at the interactive exhibition, which showcased cutting-edge AI technologies, solutions, and services from top vendors and innovative startups. The event also hosted the grand finale of the AI Hackathon, recognizing and awarding the winners for their innovative contributions.
On Artificial Intelligence Appreciation Day, CA. Dayaniwas Sharma, Chairman, AI in ICAI, expressed excitement about AI's role in enhancing efficiency and accuracy across finance functions. He noted ICAI's longstanding vision of integrating technology into professional practices, exemplified by the 38,000 Chartered Accountants who have qualified for the DISA examination and over 16,000 for forensic examination.
AIS 2024 underscored ICAI's dedication to promoting forward-thinking strategies and leveraging technology for innovation in accounting, auditing, taxation, and governance. The summit served as a catalyst for shaping the future of the accounting and financial sectors, contributing significantly to the growth of the Indian economy.
In collaboration with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), ICAI is developing an AI-powered audit tool to address compliance issues, detect fraud, and facilitate informed decision-making. "ICAI takes pride in being the first accounting body globally to lead the profession through pioneering AI integration," said CA. Ranjeet Kumar Agarwal, "setting benchmarks for excellence in the technologically driven landscape."
