1. Overview
Bank2Ledger is a locally run accounting utility designed to reduce the time spent by Chartered Accountants and accounting teams on posting bank transactions in TallyPrime.
The tool reads a bank statement in PDF or Excel format, presents the transactions in a structured review screen, allows the user to select the correct Tally ledger for each entry, and generates a Tally-compatible XML file for import.
The user remains in control of every accounting decision. Bank2Ledger does not automatically post entries into TallyPrime without review.
2. Problem Statement
Bank-entry posting in TallyPrime is often a manual and time-consuming process. Accountants typically review each bank statement line, identify whether it is a receipt, payment, contra or composite transaction, select the appropriate ledger, create the voucher, and later reconcile the books with the bank statement.
This process becomes difficult when statements contain a large number of UPI, NEFT, RTGS, cheque, cash withdrawal, bank-charge and other transactions. Manual posting can result in inconsistent narration, incorrect voucher type, missed entries, duplicate entries and avoidable rework.
Further, bank statements contain confidential client information. Many cloud-based tools require financial data to be uploaded to an external server, which may not be suitable for a CA practice handling sensitive client records.
3. Proposed Solution
Bank2Ledger provides a controlled, offline workflow between a bank statement and TallyPrime.
The user connects the tool with the TallyPrime company open on the same computer. Bank2Ledger reads the available companies, ledger masters, groups and selected bank ledgers through Tally-compatible XML communication. The user then uploads a PDF or Excel bank statement and reviews the extracted transactions.
For every transaction, the user selects the appropriate Tally ledger from the connected company’s ledger master. The tool prepares a reviewable Tally XML file that can be imported into TallyPrime.
